Flagstone #1

These steps were extremely damaged. The stones had become loose, and the joints were broken and failing. Over time, the concrete below the stones began to spall due to salt exposure and weathering. We removed all of the stones, rebuilt the concrete steps, and reused the same stones. This approach was the most effective because it created a solid base for the stones to be laid on. New joints were installed, and the intact joints should now prevent water from penetrating, which will help stop the stones from lifting and protect the concrete base.

Flagstone #2

This patio had originally been built with regular tiles, which did not perform well under different weather conditions. The decision was made to cover it with flagstone, which is a much better choice because it stands up to the weather more effectively than tile. It is also less slippery, and the added thickness of the stones reduces the chance of cracking compared with tile.

Flagstone #3

This was a hollow step covered with a thin layer of stamped concrete designed to imitate stonework. Once we removed that surface layer, which had major cracks throughout, we found that the step underneath was hollow and broken in many places, although this had been hidden by the coating. We cut the structure down 4 feet, poured new steps, and covered them with new flagstone. We also added a small amount of raven tint to the mortar to give it a darker look than standard gray mortar. This new finish is now solid, and we also sealed the stones with a color-enhancing gloss sealer, which should help protect both the stone and the joints from water penetration and damage.

Flagstone #4

This job involved tuckpointing and some stone replacement. We first power-washed the area to clean it and remove all loose joints. We then removed all of the joints and loose stones. After the repairs were completed, we applied a sealer to protect the new joints and the stone from water penetration.

Flagstone #5

This project included a mix of angel stone and flagstone. As shown, weather had taken a toll on the surfaces, and winter salt had also caused damage. We removed all of the affected material and reused some of the angel stone and flagstone, laying new flagstones in place. This repair should now stand up well to the weather, and water should no longer be able to penetrate the surface.

Flagstone#6

This step had angel stone, and the wall had paint on it. The drain was also covered with a wooden base. We removed the wooden base, all of the angel stone, and ground all of the paint off the walls. The steps were also extended to the proper length, since the originals were 9 inches and had varying heights. We corrected them to 7-inch risers and 11-inch treads, which was the maximum we could work with given the door entrance at the bottom. We also lifted the base and drain pipe to create a proper walking height. New flagstone was then installed, and flexstone was applied to coat the side walls. In the end, we carried out a water test to make sure the steps were sloped properly and that the drainage was working correctly.
